Chair 20

2022, commissioned · made again 2023
Exhibited as Sublime Studios — Livewear, New York, 2023; Sitting in Silence: The Chair Show 01, Zarolat Gallery, New York, 2025

Crema Maya limestone from the Yucatán. Slabs stacked and set into each other, faces smooth, edges left as split.

Like the whole 20 series, this chair is inspired by the timber joinery of East Asian temples. Reduced to the smallest, simplest shapes, each crossing of planes references the old way of making joints — raw and solid, yet detailed.
